The Rise of the New Right is an hour long documentary recently aired on MSNBC and hosted by Hardball’s Chris Matthews. The documentary looks at the rise of the Tea Party movement and a number of other right-wing organizations and militias that have formed since Barack Obama was elected President of the United States in 2008. Matthews said the wide range of individuals and groups profiled in the piece all seemingly share a fear of the current American government.
“There’s a similar message. This government’s a tyranny and it has to be, if not overthrown, then something like it. They treat the American government like a foreign occupying force,” say Matthews.
“He’s going to destroy this country,” Allan Keyes, the Republicans last-ditch effort to stop Obama’s inevitable election to the US senate in 2004 at one point says, “We are either going to stop him, or the United States of America is going to cease to exist.”
No matter where you fall on the political spectrum, the documentary will stir people up… which is the whole point.

Mathews just succeeding in making MSNBC the Fox News of the left! Total propganda piece complete with ominous music. Not newsworthy.
I hardly all it propaganda! It is an honest look at how this new movement has sprung up and why it continues to grow. He doesn’t for minuet pretend to agree with or even like the movement, but that doesn’t make it propaganda. What’s next? Obama is a Nazi?!Whatever.
Well no one can really deny the rise of this kind of dissent and that it also has a lot to do with the fact that Obama is black. You might not agree with the angle the documentary takes, but it is reporting facts.
MSNBC is left but not in the etremist, manipulative, agenda driven way FOX serves the right wing. The media as a whole is slanted, and documentary film making is subjective by nature (see Michael Moore, but to pretend that this is some kind of rare or extreme take that Mathews is giving is dead wrong.
I watched it the night it aired and yes there is left slant to documentary, but its not steep. The militia men he shows are clam and well spoken and he even shoes a positive looking side of a tea bagger. Its more about one’s perspective when watching as to how to how one feels the degree of the slant.
The articles you have on your blog are always so enjoyable to read. Good work and I will be returning often.
This is OK stuff, but Michael Moore, now there’s a guy with a clear agenda who spins, spins, spins his work to make that agenda fit. Mathews is looks as neutral as they come in comparison.
I can see that you are putting a lots of efforts into your blog. Keep posting the good work. Some really helpful information in there. Bookmarked. Nice to see your site. Thanks!
